Plain words, because they are the terms we would want to read.
The service
AncestralFire keeps the family tree you import and lets an assistant — the AI assistant you connect it to, such as Claude or ChatGPT, or the one on this site — explore it, check it, look up sources for it and write from it. It is operated by CatalystFire.
Your account
You need an account to use it. Keep your sign-in to yourself; what happens under your account is yours.
Subscription and payment
Pro is a recurring subscription billed through our payment processor at the price shown on the pricing page at the time you subscribe. Your plan renews each period until you cancel. Cancel any time, and we refund the unused part of the period you have paid for.
Who can use it
AncestralFire is for people 13 and older. If you are younger, ask a parent or guardian to use it with you.
AncestralFire is not offered to people in the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway for now. We'll open there once our EU representative is in place.
Your content
Your tree, and everything found and made from it, is yours. We hold it to provide the service and for nothing else. You are responsible for having the right to upload what you upload, and for what you choose to share by link.
What the assistant says
The assistant works from your tree and from sources it cites. It can be wrong, and a source can be wrong. A finding is something to check, never a fact to rely on; nothing here is professional genealogical, legal or medical advice.
Copyright
If you believe something on a page someone shared from AncestralFire infringes your copyright, write to our designated agent: Copyright Agent, CatalystFire, Inc., 100 N Howard St, Suite 10616, Spokane, WA 99201, phone (971) 279-6584, or dmca@ancestral-fire.com. Say what the work is, where it appears, and how to reach you. We take down what infringes, and we close the accounts of people who do it again and again.
Other people's services
FamilySearch, the sources we look things up in, and the assistants you use have their own terms, which apply to your use of them through AncestralFire.
AncestralFire uses YouTube API Services to find videos about the places and times in your family's story. By using AncestralFire you agree to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service.
Acceptable use
Use it for your own family history. Do not use it to harvest other people's data, to overload the services it relies on, or to break the law. Do not sell, lease or sublicense any data you obtain from FamilySearch through AncestralFire.
Ending it
You can delete your account at any time, and your tree, conversations and saved pages go with it (what we keep after that is on the Privacy page). We can suspend an account that breaks these terms, and we will tell you why.
Limits
The service is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, CatalystFire is not liable for indirect losses, and our liability for anything else is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
Changes
When these terms change, the date above changes with them, and a change that matters gets an email.
