AncestralFire

Your family, in the assistant you already use.

AncestralFire works here on the site, and inside Claude and ChatGPT. It's the same family and the same answers either way: add it once, sign in with your AncestralFire account, and ask.

The address to add

No account yet? Create one here first, then add AncestralFire to your assistant and sign in with it.

In Claude

  1. Open Customize → Connectors (claude.ai/customize/connectors).
  2. Click + Add, then Add custom connector.
  3. Name it AncestralFire, paste the address above, and click Continue.
  4. Keep the sign-in settings Claude suggests, click Continue, then Add.
  5. Click Connect and sign in with your AncestralFire account.
  6. On the same page, under Tool permissions, set Read-only tools to Always allow, so Claude can look things up in your tree without asking each time. Anything that would change your tree still waits for you to press Approve.

Then turn it on in a conversation from the + button, under Connectors. It works on every Claude plan; the free plan allows one custom connector. On a Team or Enterprise plan, an Owner adds it for the organization first, under Organization settings → Connectors.

In ChatGPT

Until AncestralFire is listed in ChatGPT's own directory, adding it takes Developer mode, which depends on your plan and workspace.

  1. Open Settings → Security and login and turn on Developer mode.
  2. Go to chatgpt.com/plugins and select +.
  3. Name it AncestralFire, paste the address above as the MCP server URL, and create the connection.
  4. Sign in with your AncestralFire account when ChatGPT asks.

In Claude Code

  1. In a terminal, add it once for every folder: claude mcp add --transport http --scope user ancestralfire https://mcp.ancestral-fire.com/mcp
  2. Start Claude Code and type /mcp, choose ancestralfire, and sign in with your AncestralFire account.
  3. Ask: "What's in my family tree?"

FamilySearch

AncestralFire works with FamilySearch Family Tree, the free shared tree. When you connect it, you sign in on the FamilySearch website, and we never see your password. Disconnecting in Settings deletes the token we hold.

Nothing changes without you

Before anything is added to FamilySearch Family Tree, the shared tree, you see exactly what will be written and press Approve, with your reason. The assistant can't approve it for you. In Claude on the web and in Claude Desktop, you approve it in a card in the conversation. Where an assistant can't show the card, it gives you a link that opens the same change on ancestral-fire.com, where you approve it signed in to your account.

Other assistants

Any assistant that connects to remote MCP servers can use the same address: it's a hosted server over HTTPS, and you sign in with your AncestralFire account. Nothing runs on your computer.
