AncestralFire · Get your file out
Get your family file out of the program it's in, and bring it here.
Most family-tree programs can save your tree as a GEDCOM file, and each hides the button somewhere different. FamilySearch is the exception, and its page says what to do instead. These are each program's own steps, with the page we took them from.
- Ancestry. On Ancestry, open your tree, choose Tree Settings, then Export tree, and download the GEDCOM file when it is ready.
- MyHeritage. On your MyHeritage family site, open Family tree, choose Manage trees, and click Export to GEDCOM beside the tree.
- FamilySearch. Not directly.
- RootsMagic. In RootsMagic, with your database open, choose the Files page, then Export Data, then GEDCOM File, pick where to save it, and click OK.
- Family Tree Maker. In Family Tree Maker, choose Export from the File menu, pick the whole file or selected people, choose a GEDCOM option as the output format, choose what to include, and save.
- Gramps. In Gramps, choose Family Trees, then Export (Ctrl+E, or Command+E on a Mac), and follow the Export Assistant.
Have the file already? Open it free: it is read in your browser, and you can bring it into AncestralFire from there.
