The Bourbon family tree: Louis XV, king at five.
Louis XV of France was born at Versailles on 15 February 1710, the great-grandson of Louis XIV. Ahead of him stood his grandfather, the Grand Dauphin, his father, the Duke of Burgundy, and an older brother this file does not record. Within four years all of them had died, and on 1 September 1715 the five-year-old became king. He was crowned at Reims on 25 October 1722 and died at Versailles on 10 May 1774.
Everything on this page comes from a published family tree of the House of Bourbon, 303 people from the ninth century to 1775, compiled by Yannick Voyeaud for the Ancestris project. Each picture is what AncestralFire shows when you ask about them.
Four years, 1711 to 1715.
- 1711MeudonHis grandfather, the Grand Dauphin, dies. The file says 14 February; historians give 14 April.
- 1712VersaillesHis mother, Marie-Adélaïde of Savoy, dies on 12 February, three days before he turns two.
- 1712MarlyHis father, the Duke of Burgundy, dies six days later.
- 1715VersaillesLouis XIV dies on 1 September. His great-grandson is king at five.
A family tree is a record, and records carry mistakes. This one gives the Grand Dauphin's death as 14 February 1711; he died on 14 April. When your file and FamilySearch Family Tree disagree on a date, AncestralFire shows you both and lets you choose; it never changes your file behind your back. The rest holds: a boy who turned two on 15 February 1712 lost his mother three days before his birthday and his father three days after it.
