How to export your family tree from MyHeritage as a GEDCOM file.
On your MyHeritage family site, open Family tree, choose Manage trees, and click Export to GEDCOM beside the tree. If you keep your tree in the Family Tree Builder program, use File, then Export GEDCOM. Either gives you a GEDCOM file.
From your family site, from MyHeritage's help
- Log in to your family site.
- Move your mouse cursor over Family tree and click Manage Trees.
- On the page that opens, click Export to GEDCOM on the right side next to the name of the tree you want to export.
- On the next page, choose whether to include photos in the GEDCOM file, then click Begin the export.
From the Family Tree Builder program, from MyHeritage's help
- Open your family tree in Family Tree Builder.
- Click the File menu in the upper menu bar and choose Export GEDCOM.
- Click Save as to give the file a name (the current name of your project is selected for you).
- If photos are attached to your tree project, the program suggests you create a sub-folder and export the photos into it.
- Select where on your computer to save the file, and click Save. Then click Next.
- Add author information if you like (it is optional) and click Next. If you added data in more than one language, select the language to export in.
- On the next screen you don't need to change anything to export the whole tree as it is. Then click Open Folder to see the file, or Finish.
Good to know.
- MyHeritage says a GEDCOM file is a text file: it doesn't include the photos themselves, but it may hold links to where they are on your computer or family site. Exporting from the family site includes those links.
- To export only some branches from Family Tree Builder, MyHeritage has a separate help page (below).
Then bring it in.
Choose the .ged file you saved. Open it on the free GEDCOM page: your file is read in your browser, so you can look it over first. Then press Bring it into AncestralFire, and the file goes with you to make your account.
